POST ORDERS FOR SECURITY OFFICERS
Objective:
To ensure the safety and security of Congregation Micah and Micah Children’s Academy, its members, students, guests, and property, while maintaining a welcoming and inclusive environment.
1. General Responsibilities
Presence: Maintain a visible and professional presence at all times. Wear the designated uniform and carry proper identification.
Communication: Maintain open communication with synagogue staff, MCA administration, security team members, and law enforcement as needed.
Documentation: Keep a detailed log of all activities, incidents, and observations during your shift. Report any unusual or suspicious activities immediately.
Emergency Protocols: Be familiar with all emergency procedures, including evacuation routes, shelter-in-place locations, and the use of emergency equipment.
2. Shift Duties
Pre-Shift: Upon arrival on the Micah campus, patrol the exterior of the synagogue, checking for any signs of unauthorized entry, vandalism, or suspicious activity. Pay particular attention to parking areas, cemetery, fences, entrances, and windows.
Check-In Office: Retrieve your walkie-talkie and key and review the Emergency Manual for any new information in the BOLO section. Check in with staff for updates on security concerns, events, or special instructions.
Campus Patrol: Conduct thorough patrols of the entire campus, looking for anything out of place, such as unfamiliar objects, vehicles, or individuals. Ensure all exterior doors are locked and secure. Report any unusual findings immediately and document them in your log.
Access Control:
Monitor and control access to the preschool and synagogue, ensuring that only authorized individuals enter the premises.
Be present at the main entrance during peak traffic times, such as drop-off and pick-up, and during scheduled programming, to manage the flow of people and ensure security.
Verify identification when necessary.
Visitor Assistance: Greet and assist visitors in a professional and courteous manner. Provide directions and answer any questions they may have while remaining vigilant for any potential security threats.
Interior Patrol: Conduct regular patrols of the interior of the synagogue including common areas, offices, and storage rooms.
Exterior Patrol: Conduct regular patrols of the exterior of the synagogue and preschool to ensure all doors are locked and secure when not in use.
3. Incident Response
Suspicious Activity: Report any suspicious behavior or potential threats to Kerry Tapia, Annahi Tapia, or Beth Clark immediately. Document the details in the incident log.
Medical Emergencies: Provide first aid assistance as needed and contact emergency medical services. Follow established protocols for medical emergencies.
Fire/Smoke Detection: If fire or smoke is detected, activate the fire alarm, notify the synagogue and preschool staff, and follow evacuation procedures. Ensure all individuals exit the building safely.
Threats/Active Shooter: In the event of a threat or active shooter, staff and congregants should follow the "Run, Hide, Fight" protocol. The security officer on duty will alert law enforcement, assist in securing the premises, and follow law enforcement protocols in response to the situation.
Property Damage: Report any damage to synagogue property immediately and document the incident in detail.
4. End of Shift Duties
Final Patrol: Conduct a final patrol of the premises, ensuring all areas are secure.
Documentation: Complete and submit all logs, reports, and documentation before leaving the premises.
5. Additional Guidelines
Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality regarding any sensitive information related to synagogue operations or security.
De-Escalation: Use de-escalation techniques to manage conflicts or potential disturbances. Physical force should only be used as a last resort and in self-defense.
