Lisa Silver
Music Director / Cantorial Soloist

Lisa SilverLisa Silver is the Music Director/Cantorial Soloist at Congregation Micah in Brentwood (Nashville), Tennessee. A multi-faceted musician whose career has included background singing, violin/fiddle playing, songwriting, producing, and voice-over work, Lisa is still actively working in many areas of the music business. Born in Detroit, Michigan, she is a classically trained violinist. Lisa was influenced by her father Abraham Silver, a vocal music teacher who trained several Motown recording artists and directed and sang in synagogue choirs and quartets in the Detroit area throughout the 50's, 60's and 70's.

Since moving to Nashville in 1972 after attending University of Michigan School of Music, Lisa has performed on thousands of recordings of all styles from classical to country for over 75 recording artists including Garth Brooks, Dolly Parton, Elvis Presley, and Willie Nelson. She has earned over 15 gold and platinum records as a background vocalist. Lisa is a Grammy-nominated songwriter, and was a recipient of the Songwriter's Guild Rising Star Award. She enjoys writing in a variety of styles and for a range of age groups. She has written and produced music for the National Girl Scout Cookie Campaign; several CDs for children and families including My Forever Family (Songs About Adopting and Being Adopted) and Celebration of Country, a CD for families featuring major country artists. Kids delight in hearing her voice on the theme song she co-wrote for Baby Looney Tunes, which airs on the Cartoon Network.

Lisa’s most recent production is her own CD MOSAIC, pieces of Jewish music in new, original settings. Lisa's interest in Jewish music was rekindled when she discovered Congregation Micah in 1995. She was one of the founders of the Micah Kids Choir, which led her to co-write a CD of original children's holiday songs for the choir with one of Micah’s Jewish educators, Teri Simon. Two of Lisa's songs, “Why, Why, Why” and “Let Us Always Remember” are included in The Complete Jewish Songbook for Children! Volume II: Manginot published by Transcontinental Music. Lisa became Congregation Micah’s Cantorial Soloist in 2002. She incorporates some of her original musical settings of liturgy into Micah’s worship services.

Several soundclips of the Micah Kids Choir CD and Lisa's original pieces can be heard on Lisa's website at LisaSilverSongs.com.
